Isolation of Chloroplasts, Mitochondria & Extration of Plant Genomic DNA
Advanced Experiment for 6 groups

This is a three-part experiment that deals with isolation and extraction of DNA. Two cell organelles are isolated from pea seedlings by differential centrifugation. First, students identify mitochondria by the enzyme activity using the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase. Secondly, organelles and chloroplasts are identified under the microscope. Thirdly, a simple method is provided to extract plant genomic DNA.
